Superb pair of Empire period candlesticks in richly decorated gilt bronze. High quality carvings. Original mercury gilt in exceptional condition. Complete with both sconces. Height: 28 cm A similar pair of candlesticks of similar quality, no doubt the same bronze-founder, were exposed in the museum Les Gobelins, Paris from September 2010 to February 2011. This pair were listed in the inventory of the Chateau de Meudon in the dining room in 1833 and in the bedroom of Prince Napoleon in 1855. Now kept in the Mobilier National, Paris, inventory n°GML 7127, GML 7305.
